Of Acne Spot Treatment

Benzoyl peroxide is a compound used in medicine especially in acne treatment.  It is also used in bleaching.  Hence, warning than it can bleach clothes.

I recently have had breakouts mainly due to lack of sleep and stress.  I had been using salicylic acid for spot treatment but my favorite salicylic product from Eskinol seems to be now out of production.

My old acne spot treatment.  Eskinol Oil Control Dermaclear-C Overnight Pimple Gel.  This is a clear gel.

Back of tube.

Okay since this Eskinol pimple gel seems defunct, I changed into the other topical acne treatment which is benzoyl peroxide.

I looked for Benzac since it is in gel form and is easily absorbed into the skin.

This formulation is 5%.  I find that this dries pimples but sometimes not overnight.  It really depends on pimple size.  I know, eew.

Side by side comparison in size.  Benzac is pricier, Php300 plus.  The Eskinol one was around Php200 or less.

Benzac is available in Mercury Drug.

I guess drinking lots of water and avoiding "puyatan" is still best to avoid pimple, well at least in my case.

If you have cystic acne and especially if a lot of them, you should seek help of a dermatologist.  It is probably hormonal, and they are the people who know what to do.  By hormonal, in female, I mean, does your acne occur or get aggravated before, after, or around your mentstrual cycle?

God bless.

    1. Hi Justine! Sorry, I haven't tried other brands like the Celeteque. From my experience as a medical transcriptionist, I noticed that Benzac AC Gel is a topical agent most prescribed by dermatologists I transcribe so I wasn't hesitant to try it. The gel form is absorbed better on the skin, and the 5% benzoyl peroxide is gentler and less drying than the stronger 10% but still potent enough.
I suggest you take note of factors you think aggravate your acne (lack of sleep, dehydration, hormones, cosmetic products, dirt, bacteria, immune system, etc.). You can actually control most of these factors except, well, your hormones. Observe your acne pattern.
Basically, for acne, look for ingredients salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Tea tree oil is another known acne fighter.
Thank you for your comment. I hope this helps you. (^_~)
