- Mobile app I use to log the my run.
I have a friend who weekly logs in a 5k run. I asked if she has a Garmin, but she said she just uses an app on her phone. This was that app - RunKeeper. Simply activate the GPS on the phone and you're good to go.
About RunKeeper:
RunKeeper uses the GPS technology found in your iPhone device to track your fitness activity, giving you comparable results to an expensive GPS watch at a fraction of the cost.
The intuitive and easy-to-use interface of the app makes it easy to track how far you went, how long it took, what you pace/speed was, how many calories you burned, and the path you travelled on a map.
Once your activity is completed, the data is synced to the RunKeeper website (www.runkeeper.com) where you can view a history of all of your activities and cumulative totals of all of your vital stats. You can also share your progress with friends by posting your activities to Facebook and Twitter, and creating a profile page that allows people to view all of your public activities.
I immediately downloaded RunKeeper and studied it. After downloading, first open your phone settings and activate GPS or Location Services in IOS.
Allow RunKeeper to have access on location services.
This is the home page. Sometimes I am not sure if the GPS is accurate especially when this pops up.
This is a great app as it gives verbal reports on the distance you have gone, the elapsed time, and the pace you're at every 10-minute intervals. You can change some stuff in the settings.
You can listen to your favorite song on the background. Just set and pick the playlist you want.
On audio timing, I have set mine on 5-minute interval. That means every 5 minutes, the music I am listening to mutes and then the audio cues will give me a report.
e.g. "Time... five minutes... Distance... zero point six kilometers... Pace... eleven minutes per kilometers."
The Distance Unit is set on default to Miles. I changed this to Kilometers.
When you're done tweaking your settings, it's time to go out and run. First click on Start Activity.
You can zoom in on the route you have run.
Below is the recent log of my weekly run. It gives me a sense of fulfillment to see a record of my accomplishments may they be small.
My Thoughts:
* Great app.
* Cheaper than buying Garmin. It may not be as accurate as the Garmin, but I don't care. I just want to log my activity to keep me motivated.
* Be careful when bringing your phone when jogging. Make sure the route you're taking is safe.
* There are other stuff to discover on this app. I just presented the basic stuff.
Thank you for reading.
God bless. (^_~)
